Sweet Honey 1/8/08: Doll Face




In 1972 a doll was introduced named Blythe. She had a large head and a Barbie-like body. Her eyes changed colors with a pull string, and she was outfitted in various themed outfits. Way ahead of her time, Blythe was unpopular until Gina Garan began taking photos of the vintage doll given to her by a friend, and posted them online. The Blythe revolution began...and now Blythe dolls fetch upwards of $400.00 on Ebay for an unopened version.
I have become slightly obsessed, as I love the idea of having a non-ceramic collectors item doll...I guess it's the kid in me. Tons of outfits, custom shoes, and accessories flood the net...and even Blythe photos are popular. This mod looking fashion doll has made a serious fashion comeback...I think it would be so smart for today's designers to design outfits for her, sell them on Ebay, and donate the profits to charities for children.
Anyway...here is my favorite Blythe doll:
